There’s nothing we love more than a happy ending—especially for our longer stay residents. Yam has officially found his forever home, and from the sounds of it, he’s settling in beautifully and already running the household.
Yam’s new family first came in to meet him, then returned to make it official—a moment we always hope for. While we know he had quite a few fans here at the shelter, we couldn’t be happier that he found the perfect match.
From the very beginning, Yam surprised everyone. Instead of hiding or taking time to adjust, he confidently stepped out of his carrier, requested a full tour of the house, and quickly decided his new people were exactly what he needed.
At first, affection was on his terms—a quick forehead pet here and there—but he made it clear he appreciated admiration, especially when it came to showing off his belly. By the end of the first day, he was already purring when his new family talked to him.
Just a few days later, Yam has made incredible progress. He now enjoys head pets, chin scratches, and even some back pets, always communicating when he’s had enough. He’s learning to gently “push” hands away instead of reacting, and what were once stronger behaviors have softened into polite little nibbles. That kind of growth in such a short time is something truly special.
Of course, Yam’s personality is shining through in all the best ways. He’s been:
- Sunbathing like a pro
- Zooming up and down the stairs
- Carrying toys (and even his food) around the house
- “Talking” with a full range of opinions
- Taking his job very seriously—locating rogue rubber bands and zip ties
Yam is thriving, and it’s clear his new family understands and respects him for exactly who he is. Watching animals like Yam decompress, build trust, and truly come into their own is exactly why we do what we do.
To Yam’s adopters—thank you for giving him the home he deserved and for loving him just as he is.
