Honoring Service Through Companionship: Military Adoptions at HSCC

For many veterans, the bond with an animal can be life-changing. At the Humane Society of Carroll County (HSCC), military adoptions are more than just placing pets into homes—they are about creating meaningful connections that support healing, companionship, and stability.

Through HSCC’s Military Matches program, adoption fees are waived for veterans, helping remove barriers for those who have served our country and are ready to welcome an animal into their lives. Time and again, this program has led to powerful outcomes for both people and pets.

One veteran recently shared their experience after adopting not one, but two dogs through the program. “I adopted Luke (formerly Barrett) in February and then added Ovi (formerly Billy) last week through the waived veteran fee. Both boys are thriving and great parts of our family.” Stories like this reflect the lasting impact of pairing veterans with animals who are also looking for a fresh start.

Animals adopted through Military Matches often come from uncertain beginnings, and veterans understand resilience better than most. These adoptions create homes built on patience, trust, and mutual support—qualities that benefit both ends of the leash.

HSCC is proud to offer Military Matches as a way to say thank you while also advancing its lifesaving mission. Every successful military adoption not only honors service but also gives an animal the chance to thrive in a loving home where they truly belong.
