The Humane Society of Carroll County welcomes families to volunteer together and make a difference. These roles are designed to be enjoyable and suitable for children when accompanied by a parent or guardian. While we occasionally have volunteer opportunities at major events that do not require orientation, the majority of our family-friendly volunteer opportunities require an individual age 16+ to complete new volunteer orientation and then sign-up for a family-friendly shift.
Family-Friendly Volunteer Opportunities
• Reading to Cats
Spend peaceful time reading aloud to cats in our Community Cat Room. This calming activity helps cats become more comfortable with human voices and encourages socialization. Open to volunteers ages 10 and up, accompanied by an individual 16+ who has completed new volunteer orientation.
• Bubble Time with Dogs
Bring joy and enrichment to shelter dogs by playing with bubbles. This fun activity engages dogs mentally and physically, helping them stay active and happy. This opportunity is suitable for families and children ages 5 and up, accompanied by an individual 16+ who has completed new volunteer orientation.
• Adoption & Event Poster Distribution
Help raise awareness by delivering adoption and event posters throughout the community. Families can work together to spread the word and connect more animals with loving homes. To get started, please have a family member 16+ complete new volunteer orientation.

There are also lots of ways families can support the Humane Society from the comfort of your home!
• Pick up a packed of greeting cards that can be colored by kids (or adults!) and returned to HSCC for use by our administration team to send thank you’s, condolences, and birthday greetings.
• Make helping animals a family project! Hosting a fundraiser is a fun way for children and adults to work together and support the cats and dogs at HSCC. We can create a fundraising page for your family through our partner, OneCause, making it easy to share your story, invite support and collect donations online.
Family-Friendly Fundraising Ideas
Lemonade Stand or Bake Sale: Serve up lemonade, cookies or other treats and donate the proceeds.
Neighborhood Yard Sale: Gather outgrown toys, books and other treasures, and invite neighbors to join in.
Birthday or Gotcha Day Fundraiser: Celebrate a family member’s birthday or your pet’s adoption anniversary by inviting donations instead of gifts.
Family Walking Challenge: Set a goal for miles walked together and ask friends and relatives to support your efforts.
Crafts for a Cause: Make and sell friendship bracelets, artwork or other handmade creations to benefit HSCC.
Family Game Night: Invite friends and neighbors for trivia, board games or a cornhole tournament, with a suggested donation to participate.
Tribute to a Beloved Pet: Create a fundraiser celebrating a special animal and share what they mean to your family.
