From Homeless Kitten to a Military Match

When a tiny kitten arrived at the Humane Society of Carroll County (HSCC) alone and frightened, it was clear he needed more than just food and shelter—he needed a hero. Within days, Bubba had captured the hearts of staff, who quickly made an appeal to our network of volunteer fosters to help him grow big and strong.

Thanks to the generosity of HSCC supporters, Bubba’s vaccinations and medical care were fully covered, giving him the healthy start he needed. Carol, a veteran who served our country for 20 years, answered the call. She welcomed Bubba into her home, where he quickly found a place in the hearts of her other family cats—and in hers.

Through HSCC’s Military Matches program, Bubba’s adoption fee was waived, making his journey to a forever home even easier. Carol shared, “As a vet with PTSD, these love bugs make my life happier. I am so grateful to HSCC for starting this program many years ago … in their own way helping us!”

Bubba’s story is a perfect example of how volunteer fosters, generous supporters, and dedicated programs come together to change lives—both for the animals in our care and the people who open their hearts to them. From a scared little kitten to a beloved family member, Bubba’s journey reminds us that a little love and care can make all the difference.
